Devils, Eagles earn first round byes in D6 boys brackets


The Central Cambria and Somerset boys basketball teams will lead area squads into the District 6 playoffs as the top two seeds in the Class AAA bracket.

Dates, times and locations have not been determined.

Central Cambria is at the top of the heap, and will have a first-round bye before facing either No. 4 Indian Valley or No. 5 Lewistown.

Somerset, meanwhile, will wait for the winner of No. 6 Johnstown and No. 3 Huntingdon.

Bishop McCort and Cambria Heights are ranked Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, in Class AA, and will also have first-round byes.

No. 8 United will be in action during the first round when they face No. 9 Bellwood-Antis. Top-seed Tyrone awaits the winner.

No. 12 Richland will face No. 5 Penns Valley, with the winner to battle No. 4 West Branch.

Bishop McCort will face the winner of No. 10 Westmont and No. 7 Blairsville while Cambria Heights awaits the winner of No. 6 Phillipsburg and No. 11 Central.

The highest local seed in the Class A playoffs will be No. 7 Laurel Valley, which will face No. 10 Penns Manor. The winner there draws No. 2 Bishop Guilfoyle.

Eighth-seeded Bishop Carroll will face No. 9 Northern Cambria with the winner to meet top-seeded Saltsburg.

No. 12 Conemaugh Valley draws No. 5 Homer-Center and the winner will face the victor of No. 4 Williamsburg and No. 13 Belleville Mennonite.

Blacklick Valley, seeded 11th, meets No. 6 Glendale in the first round, with the winner squaring off against No. 3 Harmony.
