SALTSBURG — A pair of touchdown runs by Chris Morrow and a stifling run defense allowed Laurel Valley to pick up its 299th win in school history with a 24-8 triumph over Saltsburg on Friday.
Morrow paced the Rams (3-1) on the ground with 130 yards on 14 carries. As a team, Laurel Valley ran for 298 yards while holding the winless Trojans to 8 yards.
Laurel Valley opened the scoring with Marcus Welshons’ 3-yard run.
Morrow added the first of his two scores in the second quarter with a 10-yard jaunt. The Rams ran their lead to 18-0 as Patrick Hall found Justin Tantlinger from 18 yards away.
Morrow capped Laurel Valley’s scoring in the third with a 48-yard scamper. The Trojans landed their only scoring blow in the fourth when Justin Reed hauled in a 42-yard pass from Cody Grguric.
Ed Cass added the conversion run to set the final.
Saltsburg only has beaten Laurel Valley twice during the past 21 years with its last win in 2002.
The Rams will try to pick up win No. 300 next Friday at rival Ligonier Valley.
