ST. MICHAEL - Rangers’ ninth-year coach Joe Carpenter recorded his 100th career victory Monday as his squad edged the Bisons.
Forest Hills won on a controversial play in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on first and second, a ball was hit to the Bedford third baseman, who appeared to record a double play. But on appeal, the home plate umpire reversed the call at first, saying the first baseman was off the bag. Meanwhile, no timeout was called and Rangers’ pinch runner Mike Peters continued around the bases, scoring the gamewinner.
“It’s a great win, our third one-run win in a row,” Carpenter said. “I wish the ending had been a little more different. It’s very rewarding to get my 100th win. It’s been a privilege to coach here at Forest Hills and I appreciate all the support I’ve gotten from the administration and the community. We’ve had some great players come through here, which helped me reach this mark.”
