Coleman-Kiwanis Tournament
SOMERSET – Josh Proctor scored
15 points and Eddie Buck had 11 as Somerset defeated North Star 75-66 to claim the championship.
Jacob Fleegle had 21 points for the Cougars, who also got 14 each from Wade Walker and Tony Strasiser.
Homer-Center Tournament
HOMER CITY – Forest Hills’ Luke Gallaher scored 41 points but Homer-Center still managed to win the championship 66-60.
The Rangers trailed by as many as
20 points but fought back before falling by six points.
Gallaher and Tanner Thomas each made the all-tournament team.
Shade’s Kenny Gibbons scored
22 points but the Panthers fell 54-43 to Mount Pleasant in the consolation game.
Tyler Smith added 14 points for Shade while Brad Fullman scored a game-high 25 points for Mount Pleasant.
Kittanning Tournament
KITTANNING – Ian Vescovi scored a game-high 23 points and teammate Ian Olsavsky added 13 to help Cambria Heights down host Kittanning
62-48, capturing the tourney championship.
Vescovi and Olsavsky were both selected to the all-tournament team.
Sertoma Tournament
MEADVILLE – Alkwan Williams poured in 15 points and Mark Watson provided 10 as Johnstown edged host Meadville 64-62 in the consolation game.
The Trojans’ Richard Agurs was selected to the all-tournament team while Dwight Hollingsworth topped Meadville with 32 points.
Bill Lamp Tournament
ROCKWOOD – Andy Pletcher had 10 points and tournament MVP Nick Foreman supplied nine as Rockwood edged Blacklick Valley 45-41 to claim the title.
The Vikings got a game-high
16 points from Teddy Worthington.
Pletcher, who had a double-double with 11 rebounds, and teammate Sam Sanner (eight points) were named to the all-tournament team along with Meyersdale’s Detrick Peterman, Worthington and Blacklick’s Mike Stefanick.
Ford City Tournament
FORD CITY – Westmont Hilltop outlasted United 63-61 in double overtime to claim the tournament title.
Sean Sapolich topped the Hilltoppers scoring with 14 points with A.J. Rievel adding 13 and Mike Rudnac supplying 10.
United’s Ryan Merle led all scorers with 20 points while Chase Wallace had 15 and Tim Offman, 11.
The Hilltoppers tournament MVP Zach Drennen hit a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime and the Lions Patrick Fuller then hit a trey at the end of the first OT.
Merle and Rievel were on the all-tournament team.
Girls Basketball
Coleman-Kiwanis Tournament
SOMERSET – MVP Emily Daugherty scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds to help Ligonier Valley earn the championship victory, 47-40, over North Star.
Daugherty and teammate Kristen Gabelt were also members of the all-tournament team. Gabelt and Maddy Grimm each scored 10 points for the Mounties.
Emily Lohr, who was named to
the all-tournament team, and
Breann Putman had 10 points apiece
for the Cougars.
Westmont Hilltop had four players score in double figures as the Hilltoppers downed host Somerset 81-58 in the consolation game.
All-tournament team member Alyssa Yewcic scored 17 points while Erin Rodgers added 13, Gina Rievel had
12 and Sara Rogerson provided 11.
Emily Stakovich topped the Eagles with 11 points with Chelsea Shaulis, also selected to the all-tournament team, and Nicole Landis supplying 10 points each.
Lady Marauder Classic
ALTOONA – Tournament MVP Ali Williams had 23 points as Bishop Guilfoyle built an 18-point advantage through three quarters and then held off a Northern Cambria comeback in a 62-49 win in the championship game.
Ariel Rocco had 17 points and Janae Dunchack netted 11 for Northern Cambria, as both made the all-tournament team. Bishop McCort’s Emily Basile also made the all-tourney squad as the Crushers beat Penns Valley 48-33 in the consolation game.
Basile had 14 points and Jillian Kegg added 10 points and five steals. Brittany Boyd had eight rebounds.
Homer-Center Tournament
HOMER CITY – All-tournament team member Emily Wright topped Central Cambria with 18 points as the Red Devils fell to Derry 62-54 in the consolation game.
Breanna James added 12 points for the Ebensburg squad. Tiffani Downey led all scorers with 24 points for Derry.
United Tournament
ARMAGH – Lindsy Sammarco scored 21 points and teammate Cara Semelsberger added 11 in Bishop Carroll’s
50-43 win in the championship.
Miranda Zeanchock led Cambria Heights with 21 points, and Kristy Gwizdak had 12.
Williamsburg jumped out to a 22-3 lead and cruised to a 51-21 victory over host United in the consolation game.
The Lions got a team-high seven points from Sam McGaha.
Penns Manor Tournament
CLYMER – All-tournament team member Julie Byer scored 19 points to help lead Conemaugh Township to a
73-26 victory over DuBois Central Catholic in the consolation game.
Freshman Lindy Baer added
12 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals for the Indians, who also got six points and 10 rebounds from Katie Reckner.
Miller Hopkins and Megan Witherow each scored 10 for DuBois.
Bill Lamp Tournament
ROCKWOOD – Forest Hills claimed the championship with a 70-42 victory over host Rockwood in the title tilt.
Tournament MVP Casey Gallaher led the way for the Rangers with 25 points while all-tournament team member Becky Bard supplied 19 points.
Emily Miller scored 15 points for the Rockets while Sam Emert had 12 points and was named to the all-tournament team.
In the consolation, Chestnut Ridge crushed Shanksville-Stonycreek 62-30.
Art Burkett Tournament
PORTAGE – Purchase Line, led by tournament MVP Cassie Brocious, defeated Harmony 62-45 to win the championship.
In the consolation, Penn Cambria, led by 20 points from all-tournament team member Jess Delic and 17 from Brianna Mulhearn, downed host Portage 58-33.
Kelsie Spaid, also on the all-tournament team, topped the Mustangs with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Friday started well for Bedford’s wrestling team.

Ferndale captures win in Jess Ambroe Classic
The listed opponent for Northern Cambria in Friday night’s Laurel Mountain varsity hockey game at Cambria County War Memorial was Ferndale.
What the Reapers encountered was an emotional and purple-clad Jess’ Army.
The Yellow Jackets were able to cultivate the emotion and high spirits to a 7-1 win in the second Jess Ambroe Classic. -
Rams roll past Blue Jays
It had been a while since the Richland Rams had played a varsity hockey game. Though the Rams’ last action came on Jan. 12, Richland showed little rust as it trounced Conemaugh Valley 12-1 Friday evening at Cambria County War Memorial.
Richland (7-3-2) posted four goals in the game’s first 4:33 as it buried the Blue Jays (1-14) early. -

UPDATED Bedford advances in PIAA wrestling in odd way
It’s not often that a team can win a match at the PIAA Class AA Dual-Meet Championships while giving up two forfeits, but that’s exactly what Bedford did this afternoon at the Giant Center.
In fact, the Bisons won 30-29 over Pen Argyl because they forfeited.
