PITTSBURGH —
Pittsburgh police say a man jailed on charges he fatally shot another man after an argument tried to shoot police who were chasing him but his gun jammed.
Police Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki says the jammed gun kept anyone else from being hurt in the aftermath of Sunday’s shooting of Mileek Grissom.
The 23-year-old man reportedly got in an argument with some other men before he was fatally shot by 24-year-old Lamar Alston.
Alston remains jailed today on criminal homicide and other charges.
Police briefly handcuffed Grissom’s stepfather, Earl Baldwin, at UPMC Mercy hospital after police say the distraught man created a disturbance and interfered with doctors trying to treat Grissom.
Outside the hospital, Baldwin told reporters, “I’m tired of this, man. This don’t make sense,” he said of violence on the city’s streets.
