JOHNSTOWN —
Johnstown police on Friday confirmed the identity of a dead man found outside the day before as Robert Berkheimer, The Tribune-Democrat has learned.
Berkheimer – who lived near Railroad and Clinton streets, where he was found in a walkway between two buildings – had been reported missing.
Police and the Cambria County coroner’s office are continuing their investigation.
Authorities are not releasing details but say the death is suspicious.
“Until we’re absolutely sure of the circumstance, we’re handling it as suspicious,” city police Chief Craig Foust said Friday.
The coroner is expected to release further details, he said.
City detectives and members of the Pennsylvania Safe Streets Task Force are investigating.
A neighbor said Thursday that the man was last seen Monday. It’s believed he is about 50 and worked for a temporary employment agency.
