The NCAA is wasting no time in challenging a newly signed state law aimed at keeping the $60 million it fined Penn State because of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal inside Pennsylvania. The body sued in federal court just hours of Gov. Tom Corbett signed the law. The NCAA says that keeping the money in the state goes against the consent decree the school agreed to.

PITTSBURGH POLICE CHIEF IS DISMISSED, BUT QUESTIONS ABOUT A FEDERAL INVESTIGATION LINGER
Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper resigned after 29 years on the force, doing so after Mayor Luke Ravenstahl met with federal investigators conducting a probe of police business. But the dismissal doesn’t mean the investigation will go away, even though Ravenstahl, who is seeking reelection, says he’s not a target.
TEACHER ROBBED IN CLASSROOM AND HIT WITH A HAMMER
A teacher in Upper Darby, just outside of Philadelphia, is doing OK after she was assaulted with a hammer inside her classroom after school had let out. A 19-year-old man was arrested for the attack and charged with assault and robbery.

John Krancer, secretary of the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, will face questions from lawmakers on the Senate Appropriations Committee today as to why the agency needs $128 million for its annual budget.
