Chamber event unites city, county officials

— The successes and failures of Cambria County and its largest city are intertwined.

Johnstown’s approximately 21,000 people account for about 15 percent of the county’s population, meaning what happens within the municipality – good or bad – ripples throughout the entire region.

With that thought in mind, the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce decided to bring representatives from both governmental bodies together for a discussion.

Previously, the chamber held separate annual events where individuals could discuss key issues with county and city officials. This year, it has been combined into one meeting, the “State of the County & City.”

It will take place on March 28 at the Holiday Inn

Johnstown-Downtown, beginning at 8 a.m.

“It will be a little more efficient use of time,” said Robert Layo, the chamber’s president.

City Manager Kristen Denne is scheduled to attend, along with the county’s three commissioners, Mark Wissinger, Douglas Lengenfelder and Thomas Chernisky.

“Any time Cambria County can work with the city of Johns-town and get things done and show a good working relationship, that’s good for our community,” said Chernisky.

Admission is $20 for chamber members, $25 for non-members.
