Man faces sentencing in Johnstown for cross-burning

JOHNSTOWN — A Centre County man is scheduled to be sentenced in Johnstown for burning a cross in white woman’s yard because she had a black man living there.

Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Held, of Philipsburg, pleaded guilty in October to two counts of interfering with housing for the August 2010 incident in Woodland in Clearfield County.

Federal prosecutors say Held sought to intimidate the woman and her male friend, who have not been named in court papers.

The crimes carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Held’s bond was revoked after his guilty plea last year, meaning he’s been jailed since then.

He’s scheduled to appear before U.S. District Judge Kim Gibson in Johnstown for sentencing on Thursday.
