Blacklick Township accident that killed 17-year-old was caused by medical event

JOHNSTOWN — According to the Cambria County coroner, 17-year-old Derek Thomas Brothers died after a medical event triggered the one-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on Allie Buck Road in Blacklick Township.

Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski said the Nanty Glo teen had congenital heart disease that precipitated the accident.

“We’re still going to rule it accidental,” Kwatkowski said. “But a medical event triggered all this.”
