Police looking into telephone fraud, other cases in the area

EBENSBURG — State police in Ebensburg are looking into a case of fraud brought against a 49-year-old Portage Township woman.

According to a police report, the victim was telephoned by an unknown female subject who said she was employed by the Drug Enforcement Administration caiming there an active warrant for the victim’s arrest relating to an internet purchase in 2007.

The victim was told she was required to pay a $4,500 fine immediately through Western Union. The victim wired a partial payment of $900 with the promise to wire the rest after she obtained the money from her credit card.

The victim was told not to talk to anyone about the situation under threat of arrest.

She discovered the fraud and, after confronting the caller, was blocked from calling.

Anyone with similar situations are asked to contact state police at 471-6500.

An accident Thursday morning at Broad Street and Sixth Ave sent one person to Memorial Medical Center, Cambria 911 officials said.

The accident occurred at 7:40 a.m., a 911 supervisor said.

The extent of the injury was unknown.

State police in Somerset are looking into a home burglary that took place sometime between Aug. 10 and Oct. 24 at a residence along Summit Drive in Ogle Township.

According to a police report, someone entered the residence through an open window. The perpetrator or perpetrators stole a chandelier and all copper piping from the basement area.
