Man shot last month by homeowner dies

ALTOONA — A Blair County man has died nearly a month after being shot by a homeowner who claims the man pounded on several windows and acted aggressively late at night.

Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross says 24-year-old Brandon Zeth died Wednesday afternoon at a Pittsburgh hospital from complications of the gunshot wounds received just after midnight Jan. 14.

The Altoona Mirror reports today that Allegheny Township homeowner Timothy Lepore, who is in his 60s, has acknowledged shooting Zeth saying the man woke him up and shouted threats. Lepore’s attorney, Steven Passarello, says the shooting is justified.

Township police and the district attorney are continuing to investigate whether the shooting was permissible under the state’s so-called castle doctrine.

Zeth’s father claims his son mistakenly believed he was outside girlfriend’s house, which is why he was demanding to be let inside.
