SOMERSET —
An early morning Route 271 school bus crash sent 10 children to the hospital - but all involved appear to have escaped serious injuries, Central Cambria school officials said.
The crash, which occurred about 8:30 a.m. today near the Ideal Market in Vinco, is believed to have occurred after a pickup driver pulled out onto Route 271 and was struck by the bus, Central Cambria schools Superintendent Vincent DiLeo and Jackson Township police said.
“Apparently the sun was in the truck driver’s eyes and he pulled out not seeing the bus - and was broad-sided,” he said, noting the investigation remains ongoing and both vehicles will be checked out.
The bus was carrying 26 elementary students to Jackson Elementary, DiLeo added.
