INDIANA —
A Johnstown area man has been charged in the death of his girlfriend, who died in August from an illicit drug that he allegedly gave to her while she was a patient at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Aaron Matthew Sandak, 36, was charged by state police with drug delivery resulting in death and involuntary manslaughter.
Sandak was apprehended in Ocean City, Md., police said. He has waived extradition and will be brought to Indiana County.
Megan Elizabeth Prugh, 29, was found dead in bed while paperwork was being processed for her discharge from the hospital, said Indiana County Coroner Michael A. Baker.
Testing on blood samples showed that the hospital’s medications were appropriately administered by the staff, but that the sample taken at the autopsy indicated the unexpected presence of Methadone, he said. It was discovered later that she received the Methadone on the day of her discharge when it was allegedly delivered by Sandak, he said.
“Were it not for the actions of Mr. Sandak, Megan Prugh would have left IRMC and very likely have had a complete recovery,” Baker said.
