The Johnstown-area man injured Tuesday after apparently striking a power line while working on a roof has been moved to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.
Michael Reed, a private contractor, suffered serious head and back injuries in his fall and burns to his hands and face, his sister, Michelle, said Wednesday.
“He’s in stable condition ... but he’s in pretty bad shape,” she said.
Reed was among those working on South Street in the city’s Kernville neighborhood when the accident occurred. Police said he apparently was working on the roof and accidentally touched a piece of metal drip edge with a live wire.
DA: Plea expected in triple homicide case
INDIANA – A prosecutor said an Indiana County man is scheduled to plead guilty to killing his two young daughters and his estranged wife earlier this year.
District Attorney Patrick Dougherty didn’t immediately say what charges 41-year-old Lewis Beatty, of Home, will plead guilty to or what penalty he’ll face. Beatty’s public defender, Fred Hummel, declined comment until after the proceeding at 2 p.m. Friday.
Daugherty had planned to seek the death penalty if Beatty was convicted of first-degree murder at trial.
Beatty also is charged with arson and animal cruelty for allegedly burning his home, where his daughters were killed, and his estranged wife’s residence, after fatally shooting the family’s pet pony, goat and dog on June 1.
State police said Beatty choked and slashed the throats of 33-year-old Christine Beatty and their girls.
Man admits softball dispute led to death
BEDFORD – A Bedford County man could get up to five years in prison after an argument over softball ended in another man’s death.
Randy Foor, 51, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Monday in connection with a shoving match that left Dennis Sprigg dead.
Investigators said Foor and Sprigg were friends who got into a physical confrontation over softball during a day of drinking and on-and-off squabbling in August.
Foor shoved Sprigg, who hit his head on the sidewalk at Foor’s Bedford home.
Sprigg died nearly seven weeks later.
Foor’s attorney had called Sprigg’s death a tragic accident.
The Altoona Mirror reported Foor could get a sentence ranging from a few months to five years.
Penn Highlands sets enrollment event
Pennsylvania Highlands Community College will hold a One Stop Shop from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at its Richland Township campus, 101 Community College Way.
The event will enable individuals to complete an application and enroll in spring classes in one visit.

Cambria-Rowe Business College student ambassadors have presented a donation of $445 to the Conemaugh Cancer Fund.
The money was raised through sales of breast cancer awareness bracelets, pink pens, pink ribbon pins and “I Am Every Patient” die cuts for display.
Faculty and staff also made donations for a dress-down
day.
