Police chief quits Confluence post

— The revelation of a risqué photograph has led to the resignation of Confluence’s police chief.

Tom Keller stepped down from his post Friday morning, according to the borough’s mayor, Allen Gyorko.

Keller had been suspended without pay soon after Borough Council learned about the picture’s existence on Wednesday night.

The image does not show any obvious illegal activity. Keller has one arm wrapped around an unidentified young woman, whose midriff is bare.

His other hand is near her crotch. She is holding one gun; another firearm is tucked into the front of her jeans.

“There was a photo that was put on Facebook that was very unpleasant, and we didn’t agree with the photo,” Gyorko said.

“We were very distraught over the photo.”

Keller could not immediately be reached for comment after he resigned.

In an earlier interview with KDKA, he said his private Facebook account was hacked by somebody trying to embarrass him. Keller has reportedly filed a complaint with the state police.

He was the only full-time officer in the small Somerset County municipality.

Part-time officers will fill the void until a decision is made concerning how to move forward.

Borough Council is expected to discuss the subject during its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.

  • Power in Moxham expected to be restored by 1 p.m. Tuesday

    One person was sent to the hospital Tuesday after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole in Johnstown leaving some customers without power, authorities said. The one-vehicle crash happened on Bridge Street in the Moxham section of Johnstown at 1:14 a.m., fire Chief Anthony Kovacic said. When firefighters arrived, they found utility wires down, he said. Denny Platt, area manager for Penelec, said 402 customers initially lost power, including North American Hoganas High Alloys, a business which is located on Bridge Street. Power was restored to all but nine customers by 3:30 a.m., he said. The remaining nine customers are expected to have power restored by 1 p.m., Platt said.
