A 15-year-old Johnstown youth was jailed Sunday after he allegedly stabbed a 14-year-old boy in an apparent dispute over money, authorities said.
The 15-year-old stabbed the victim with a knife near the sports field at Westmont Hilltop High School around 4 a.m. Sunday, West Hills Regional police said.
In a court document, police said the suspect allegedly stabbed the youth because he was owed money.
Police said the 15-year-old – whose name is being withheld by The Tribune-Democrat because of his age – subsequently gave a four-page written confession.
“The boys were friends throughout the past school year,” West Hills officer Dean West said. “Differences in their friendship came about, which led to a physical altercation resulting in the stabbing.”
The stabbing occurred near the school at the end of a path through a wooded area that leads to Graystone Lane in Westmont Borough, police said.
Police said they recovered a pocket knife.
The victim was treated at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown for a stab wound to the shoulder. He later was released from the hospital, police said.
The youth was arraigned Sunday by District Judge Michael Musulin of Johnstown on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of simple assault.
The boy was sent to Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $50,000 bond.
