Solomon Homes resident charged after food fire causes evacuation

— A man’s drunken attempt at cooking led to the evacuation of a Johnstown apartment building early Tuesday, authorities said.

City firefighters entered the Solomon Homes public-housing complex at around 3 a.m. as smoke was pouring from inside a Building 5 apartment.

A firefighter used a passkey to enter the apartment and found Avery Louis McCall, 25, passed out on the couch as food burned on the stove, police said.
