The event will allowing students to complete all the necessary steps to register for the fall 2011 semester in just one visit.

Grants available for med school students
The Medical Community Endowment, a fund within the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, is seeking applicants for scholarships for medical school students from Cambria and Somerset counties who have expressed an interest in returning to the area upon graduation to practice medicine. The scholarships are limited to third- and fourth-year medical students.
Four or five scholarships of $5,000 each will be distributed this year to eligible students.
The deadline for applications to be received by the Community foundation is July 8.
The scholarship is supported through the Apollo Program, which recognizes community involvement by the medical sector. It is supported by the Cambria County Medical Society, Conemaugh Health System and Lee Initiatives.

Pitt-Johnstown earns service honor
Pitt-Johnstown has again earned a place on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The Honor Roll, administered through the Corporation for National and Community Service, is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
During the 2009-2010 academic year, the period for which the school is being recognized, Pitt-Johnstown students, faculty and staff performed more than 12,300 hours of service, positively impacting the lives of 5,000 individuals.
4 firefighters hurt battling 2 blazes
NEW KENSINGTON – Authorities in Westmoreland County say four firefighters were injured in one of two blazes that broke out at houses a few blocks apart.
Officials said the occupant of one New Kensington home was at work when the first fire was reported shortly after 9:20 p.m. Saturday.
The second blaze was reported less than an hour later at a vacant home.
Authorities say three firefighters were taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation. Another firefighter also was being treated for smoke inhalation.
Investigators say it’s unclear whether the two blazes are related.
Rattlesnake roundup raises money
NOXEN – Residents and visitors in Wyoming County spent the weekend developing a relationship with rattlers.
The rattlesnake roundup in Noxen Township has been held for almost four decades.
The local fire company uses the roundup not only as the year’s biggest fundraiser but as an opportunity to teach people about snakes.
