WINDBER —
Charges have been waived to court for a Windber man accused of crashing his motorcycle while drunk in October with a 4-year-old riding on the bike’s fuel tank.
Jeremy R. Irons, 39, will face trial in Somerset County court on a list of charges, including aggravated assault while driving drunk, DUI, child endangerment and others, after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph Cannoni.
Irons, who remains released on his own recognizance, left the Windber courtroom using a cane for assistance – and Cannoni indicated the man was continuing to recuperate from his injuries in the crash.
The 4-year-old passenger in the crash was also seriously injured at the time, suffering broken ribs and liver, spleen and lung injuries.
Paint Township police said Irons crashed Oct. 15 on Cottage Lane, where he hit a guide rail.
According to a police affidavit, Irons blamed leaves on the road for the crash.
Investigators said he had a blood alcohol level of 0.19 percent – more than twice the state’s current intoxication level.
Irons is being represented by Johnstown attorney Russell Heiple.
