An inmate at the Community Correction Center in Johnstown faces drug charges after he allegedly returned to the center with heroin, authorities said.
Avid Leon Simms, 50, no hometown listed, said Friday he found three stamp bags of heroin near a dollar store. He then gave them to the guard upon returning to the Washington Street facility, state police in Ebensburg said.
Upon further inspection, Simms was found carrying heroin in a cigarette box, troopers said.
Lecture offered on courthouse history
EBENSBURG – Chris Meister will present a lecture on James Riely Gordon, the architect of the Gordon Annex of the Cambria County Courthouse.
The event is sponsored by the Cambria County Historical Society and will be held at noon Monday in Courtroom No. 1.
The event is free and open to the public.
Route 160 work to begin Thursday
SIDMAN – Work will begin Thursday on Route 160 in Adams and Croyle townships.
The contractor will pave about 4.5 miles from Township Road 501 (Crestview Drive) to the intersection of Route 869 toward Beaverdale. Other work will include milling, inlet adjustments and guiderail upgrades.
Work will be done using single-lane closures that will be controlled by flaggers during daylight hours.
All work is expected to be completed by early October.
The contractor for the $1.5 million project is Quaker Sales Corp. of Johnstown.
Penn Highlands plans open house in Ebensburg
EBENSBURG – Pennsylvania Highlands Community College will hold an open house for its Ebensburg Education Center from 5 to 7 p.m. July 12.
The center is at College Park Plaza on Route 22.
