Supporters and fellow political figures are on the trail with House hopefuls today in the 12th district, where Republican Tim Burns and Democrat Mark Critz are battling to succeed the late John P. Murtha.
Burns, Critz and Libertarian Demo Agoris are on the ballot in the special election to complete the remainder of Murtha’s term, through the end of the year.
In Tuesday’s primary elections for the 12th district’s next term, Burns is joined on the Republican ballot by William Russell, while Critz is on the Democratic ballot with Ron Mackell Jr. and Ryan Bucchianeri.
Burns will make a series of stops across the district today, culminating in a GOP rally with Attorney General Tom Corbett at 4:30 p.m. at Richland Fire Hall in Johnstown.
Burns spoke at a breakfast gathering this morning at Waynesburg Airport Restaurant in Greene County and will make two stops in Indiana County with U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Hollidaysburg: at noon at Tom’s Pizza on South 7th Street, and at 12:50 at the campaign phone bank on North Eighth Street.
Then at 4:30, the GOP rally at Richland Fire Hall will feature both Burns and Corbett, a candidate for governor.
Critz is joined on the trail today by U.S. Sen. Bob Casey for three mid-day stops in Washington, Pa.: at 11 a.m. at Washington Area Senior Center; at 11:30 a.m. at Shorty's Lunch on West Chestnut Street; and at noon at Krency's Ice Cream on East Maiden Street.
On Tuesday, Burns will vote at 9:30 a.m. at Wylandville Elementary School in Eighty Four. He will then gather with supporters to watch the election returns at the George Washington Hotel on Main Street in Washington.
Critz plans to cast his vote at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Church Hall on Park Avenue in Johnstown. Critz and his supporters will hold their election-night gathering at the Holiday Inn on Market Street in Johnstown.
