WINSLOW, N.J. — A Windber woman was killed and another Windber woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident early Friday near Winslow in southcentral New Jersey.
Both were in the same car.
The driver of the other vehicle was charged with drunken driving, state police said.
Kathleen A. Lucas, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Camden County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Lucas was a passenger in a car driven by Darlene Siska.
Siska was treated at a hospital for injuries that were described as “not life-threatening,” police said.
Siska was eastbound on the Atlantic City Expressway when her vehicle and another eastbound car, operated by Tiece Riddick, of Sicklerville, N.J., collided, police said. Riddick was treated at a hospital.
Boil-water notice lifted in N. Cambria
NORTHERN CAMBRIA – Residents of Northern Cambria no longer need to boil their drinking water.
They were notified July 22 of a possible contamination problem, which has been corrected, according to the Northern Cambria Municipal Authority.
WHO doctor visiting research institute
WINDBER – Dr. Hanne Tonnesen, a surgeon and director of the World Health Organization’s Collaborative Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, is visiting Windber Research Institute for the next several days to help with a program that will make it easier for doctors to keep their patients healthy.
She will be working on the Health Promoting Hospital DATA Project with Dr. Matt Masiello, chief wellness officer and director of the institute’s Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
The institute serves as the coordinating site for the program, which involves clinicians from 10 countries.
Tow truck fire ruled an arson
MEYERSDALE – A state police fire marshal has ruled that a fire in a rollback tow truck at 238 Large St. on
July 24 was arson.
The vehicle was destroyed.
Damage was estimated at $18,150.
State police at Somerset listed the victims in the incident as Mary M. Layton and Grant C. Tressler, both of Meyersdale.
Scouts break ground for camp development
PENN RUN – The Penn’s Woods Council, Boy Scouts of America, has conducted a groundbreaking ceremony to launch the development of its Point-Cove site at Camp Seph Mack, located within Yellow Creek State Park.
The project will include new infrastructure to accommodate five bunkhouse-style cabins and a central pavilion for group cooking and dining, said Cletus McConville, the council’s executive director.
The first phase of the work includes construction of three cabins and a new road, parking and installation of utilities.
Phase one was made possible through a state grant obtained by Sen. John Wozniak, D-Westmont, he said.
The second phase will include construction of the final two cabins, a modern restroom, landscaping, a boat dock and shoreline improvements to reduce bank erosion in that area.
Much of the work is being done by adult members of the Scouts and is led by Mark Sanford of Cresson, McConville said.
Farmers market today in Ebensburg
EBENSBURG – The farmer’s market in Ebensburg will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Penn Eben Park downtown.
It will remain open every Saturday through Sept. 19. Ten vendors are participating.
State police promoted to sergeant, corporal
HERSHEY – State police promoted a number of members to the ranks of sergeant and corporal recently. Their names, previous assignments, new assignments and year of enlistment follow.
Among the 13 corporals promoted to sergeant were:

• Brian J. Ianuzzi, of Altoona, from Troop G, Hollidaysburg, to Troop M, Bethlehem; 1996.
• Kirk R. Reese, of Pittsburgh, from Troop A, Greensburg, to Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement; 1998.
