BOSWELL — A 15-year-old boy has been charged with arson and reckless endangerment in connection with a house fire at 8937 Somerset Pike on the afternoon of
July 15.
State police said Saturday that charges were filed through the Somerset County Juvenile Probation Department.
No one was injured in the blaze, which caused $25,000 damage.
The home – owned by John Krause, 50, of Somerset – is rented by Tracey Smith, 40.
Couple escape injury in shooting incident
ALTOONA – Four shots were fired into an Altoona home about 2 a.m. Saturday just after a couple went inside after sitting on the front porch.
No one was injured.
The shots were fired from a passing vehicle into a structure in the 400 block of 3rd Avenue, city police said. Two rounds penetrated the front door and two others crashed through the front window.
Route 30 to close for crane crossing
REELS CORNERS – Route 30 near Reels Corners will be closed from 5:30 to 6 a.m. Tuesday to allow an oversized crane to cross the road.
Advance warning signs and barriers will be in place to help make motorists aware of the closure.
Local police and construction employees will stop traffic while the crane crosses.
The crane will cross about 1.5 miles east of Reels Corners.
No detour will be established. Route 30 is expected to be closed for no more than 30 minutes.
Ebensburg raises zoning appeal fee
EBENSBURG – The borough’s fee for a zoning appeal is increasing for the second time in four years. Residents now pay $175 to file a zoning appeal or apply for a zoning variance. That has been the price since 2005, when Borough Council members increased it from $150.
The new fee will be $200, partly because of new requirements in the state Municipal Code. A stenographer is required at each hearing, and the hearings must be advertised in a newspaper.
The borough’s share of the fee is $55.
Flood memorial group to hold book sale
ST. MICHAEL – The Friends of Johnstown Flood National Memorial will hold a used book sale to benefit the memorial.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 7;
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 8; and noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 9 at the clubhouse in St. Michael.
