AAABA beer sales sought

JOHNSTOWN — Do beer and amateur baseball mix?

Those involved with the All American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament want to find out, and they’re asking for City Council’s permission to sell brew during next month’s games at Point Stadium.

Council members would have to hastily amend an ordinance that effectively prohibits such sales during AAABA.

Tournament organizers say they’ll abide by council’s decision, but they also believe beer could generate much-needed revenue.

“We’re hoping to give it a shot this year, but it has to be 100 percent controlled,” said George Arcurio III, president of the Johnstown Oldtimers and a national AAABA officer.
