Interest from area developers has spurred Richland School District to offer a prime Theatre Drive tract for bids.
With 16 acres of nearly development-ready land in a busy traffic corridor on the table, the former Rachel Hill elementary site’s sale could be a significant windfall for a district that, like so many others, is looking for new revenue sources in tough budget times.
It also could bring new development – and jobs.
But Superintendent Thomas Fleming said board members are going to take a wait-and-see approach with the Rachel Hill schoolhouse land.
“We’ve been approached by several developers interested in the property – and it seems like there’s real interest in it,” Fleming added. “But right now, the idea is to put it out there and see what happens.”
