WINDBER —
Borough officials have set an undisclosed reserve for their former home, the one-time Berwind-White Coal Mining Co. headquarters.
A public auction to unload the historic Somerset Avenue site will be held at noon today, following a 9 a.m. auction of its contents, which include oak furniture, office supplies and old parking meters. The items can be viewed at mishlerauction.com under “current auctions.”
Borough officials voted to sell the property in the fall after deciding to relocate their offices to the train station on Graham Avenue.
The former Berwind-White building had been in the borough’s hands since the 1970s.
Borough officials said it needs significant attention – likely $100,000 in work – but it’s structurally sound and they are hopeful a local entrepreneur will give it new life.
Mishler Auctions is handling the auction for 12 percent of the proceeds.
