Fun day salutes military families

BOSWELL — Current members of the military, veterans and their families are invited to the third annual Heroes Helpers Family Fun Day scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Outdoor Odyssey Adventure Camp near Boswell.

The organizers of the event – Kevin Nolty, Missy Stevens and Molly Harrison, members of the John B. Gunter Leadership Program – said everyone knows the sacrifices that servicemen and women make during military service. The event recognizes the spouses and children of servicemen and women who share those obligations, they said.

The event is free and includes lunch, dinner, prizes and activities such as zip lines, rock-wall climbing and a scavenger hunt using a global positioning system.

“We’re incredibly excited to offer military families the chance to bond as they experience this adventure together,” Stevens said. “Every activity we have planned will allow parents and their children to experience everything Outdoor Odyssey has to offer. Families can choose what they want to take part in, and every activity is, of course, optional.”

Outdoor Odyssey is located at 450 Boy Scout Road, Boswell.

More information about the event can be found at www.heroeshelpers.com.

The event has numerous sponsors including the American Red Cross, VetAdvisors, National Drug Intelligence Center, Outdoor Odyssey, PBS Coals, Sheetz, CTC Foundation, JWF Cares, Kongsberg, Penstan, DRS Technologies, Somerset Trust Co. and Post 7605 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Twin Rocks.
