2 sentenced, 1 pleads guilty to federal drug charges

JOHNSTOWN — Two Johnstown area residents have been sentenced in federal court in Johnstown while a third has pleaded guilty.

John D. Malden, 35, of the 1500 block of Ferndale Avenue in Upper Yoder Township, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kim R. Gibson to 87 months in prison and 10 years of supervised release for violating federal narcotics laws.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Valkovci Jr., on July 13, 2006, Malden distributed less than 5 grams of crack cocaine, and on July 15, 2006, he distributed less than

5 grams of crack cocaine and possessed with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine.

In addition, Malden distributed 5 grams of more of crack cocaine Oct. 9, 2007.

Acting U.S. Attorney Robert S. Cessar commended the Laurel Highlands office of the FBI and the Cambria County Drug Task Force for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Malden.

Reheim M. Harris, 36, of the 900 block of Coleman Avenue, Johnstown, has been sentenced by Gibson to 120 months in prison and five years of supervised release for violating federal narcotics laws.

According to information presented to the court by Valkovci, from January 2007 to Aug. 7, 2007, Harris, along with five co-defendants, conspired to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and 5 grams or more of crack cocaine.

In addition, on Aug. 7, 2007, he possessed less than 100 grams of heroin with the intent to distribute it.

Cessar commended the Laurel Highlands office of the FBI, the Cambria County Drug Task Force and the Johnstown police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Harris.

Quan J. Britt, 33, of the

100 block of Prospect Street, Johnstown, has pleaded guilty before Gibson to violating federal narcotics laws.

In connection with the plea, Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines advised the court that on Oct. 30, 2008, Britt alone, and on Jan. 12, 2009, Britt and a co-defendant, distributed 5 grams or more of crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of a playground.

The Laurel Highlands office of the FBI, state police, Johns-town police and Cambria County Drug Task Force conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Britt.
