Girl Scouts to present Awards of Distinction

JOHNSTOWN — Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania will hold its 33rd annual awards dinner April 19 at Sunnehanna Country Club, Westmont.

The event will be called the Awards of Distinction Dinner for the first time this year. It formerly was known as the Girl Scouts Dinner.

There will be a general reception at 6 p.m. followed by the dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for two are $225.

Edward A. Washington will receive the 2010 Community Leader Award.

Washington, of Johnstown, is senior security administrator for Curtiss-Wright EMD, a division of Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Corp. He is on the board of Conemaugh Health Foundation and an active member of Johnstown Area Regional Industries and Greater Johnstown-Cambria County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Showcase for Commerce Committee.

He has served on the boards of Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Pennsylvania Association for Individuals with Disabilities.

Joyce Murtha, widow of U.S. Rep. John Murtha, will receive the Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania Humanitarian Award on behalf of her late husband’s support of the Girl Scouts for the past 36 years.

Linda A. Mills, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Information Systems, will be keynote speaker.

She received the Northrop Grumman CEO Leadership Award in 2000, 2001 and 2005. She was listed in 2009 by Washingtonian Magazine as one of “Washington’s Top 100 Tech Titans.” She was honored as one of Profiles in Diversity Journal’s “Women Worth Watching in 2007.”

She serves on the boards of Northern Virginia Technology Council, the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and the Board of Visitors for the University of Illinois College of Engineering.
