12th district candidates’ forums planned

JOHNSTOWN — The Tribune-Democrat and WJAC-TV will co-host a pair of events to give voters the opportunity to hear from the candidates in the 12th Congressional District elections.

• Primary forum: 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Westmont Hilltop High School auditorium.

All candidates for the 12th district primary election have been invited to attend.

They include Republicans Tim Burns and William Russell; and Democrats Ryan Buccianeri, Mark Critz and Ron Mackell Jr.

Candidates will be given time to introduce themselves and state their positions, then they will all answer a series of questions.

Questions for the candidates will be accepted from the audience.

• Special election debate:

7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, Richland High School auditorium.

The candidates to fill the remaining portion of the late John P. Murtha’s term – Critz and Burns – will square off in a debate format.

Each will be given time to introduce himself and state his positions.

Then, the candidates will alternate in answering questions, with time for rebuttals and redirects.

Questions for the debate will also be taken from the audience.

Admission to both political events will be free.

Moderators for the two events will be WJAC News Anchor Marty Radovanic and Tribune-Democrat Editor Chip Minemyer.
