CAIRNBROOK — State police in Somerset have made an arrest in a year-old assault case in which a Cairnbrook man suffered a cracked skull.

Matthew Scott Heaton, 19, of the 1100 block of Bedford Street, Johnstown, is accused of assaulting Shiloh Doak with a metal pipe on June 29, 2011.

Doak was inside his apartment in the 1400 block of School Road when he heard a knock at the door. When Doak opened the door, Heaton struck him with a pipe and then fled, state police said an affidavit of probable cause.

Doak said at the time he

wasn’t sure who struck him or why.

A witness later identified Heaton as the attacker.

Doak was taken to Memorial Medical Center and treated for a fractured skull.

Heaton was arraigned Tuesday by on-call District Judge Douglas Bell of Meyersdale on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and criminal mischief.

He was sent to the Somerset County Jail after failing to post $5,000 bond.

Troopers said Heaton also is wanted in Cambria County for absconding from a rehabilitation facility.
