PORTAGE —
A woman who authorities said stole money from Portage Township when she was the treasurer will pay about $20,000 in restitution, the township solicitor said.
Cambria County detectives charged Lisa Flynn, 46, of the 700 block of Orchard Street, with forgery, tampering with records, receiving stolen property and theft by deception.
Flynn waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before
District Judge Galen Decort of Portage, sending the case to county court.
Detectives alleged in a criminal complaint that Flynn stole $10,484.30 during the time she was employed by the township from 2007 through March of this year.
That figure now appears to be much higher.
“Restitution at this point is approximately $20,000,” township Solicitor Calvin Webb said.
The thefts were uncovered during an annual audit by Wessel and Co., detectives said.
Flynn was responsible for issuing payroll checks and checks for day-to-day expenses.
Authorities alleged she forged names on checks and deleted copies from township records.
Her attorney, Micheal Filia, said he has yet to review the Wessel and Co. audit.
“We hope to resolve this amicably,” he said Wednesday.
Flynn remains free on $50,000 unsecured bond.
