Former Steeler accused of assaulting child
Former Steelers lineman Carlton Haselrig has been jailed on a probation violation after being arrested Saturday evening on charges he assaulted a child.
Johnstown police Officer Erin Kabler said Sunday that officers were called to Haselrig’s residence on the 800 block of Fronheiser Street for a report that he had assaulted one of his minor relatives.
Kabler said some children were hiding in the attic of the home because they were so afraid. A 7-year-old received injuries that required an ambulance ride to the hospital, the officer said.
Neither the number of other children at the home nor their ages were immediately available.
Haselrig faces charges including child endangerment, reckless endangerment and simple assault, Kabler said.
Police said Haselrig had been drinking.
Lawmaker to hold telephone town hall meeting
INDIANA – At 7 p.m. today, Rep. Dave Reed, R-Indiana, will host an hour-long telephone town hall meeting with constituents from the 62nd Legislative District.
Most residents of Reed’s district should receive a phone call around 7 p.m. To participate, they should remain on the line until the meeting begins.
“This format allows people to participate in the governing process from the comfort of their own homes,” Reed said. “For some senior citizens with limited mobility or young families who would have to hire a babysitter for the night, a traditional town hall meeting simply isn’t convenient.
“We’re trying to make it easier for folks to hear what’s going on and get answers for their questions.”
In April, Reed held a telephone town meeting that attracted more than 1,500 participants. During that hour-long discussion, Reed touched on issues ranging from the state budget, electricity market deregulation and retrieving natural gas in the Marcellus shale.

2 a.m. Sunday just before the entrance to the Fort Pitt tunnels.
State police say the car went off the interstate and plunged about halfway down the wooded hillside, landing with its underside wedged against trees above the Banksville Road commercial district. The 18-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were able to get out of the vehicle and call for help.
