EBENSBURG —
A 15-year-old boy accused of stabbing another youth in a dispute over money was expected to be released from jail Wednesday, and the case likely will be heard in juvenile court.
District Judge John Barron of Upper Yoder Township reduced the youth’s bond to $50,000 unsecured bond.
Public Defender Patricia Moore is asking a Cambria County judge to move the case to juvenile court.
“That’s a more appropriate venue, given the fact he’s only 15,” she said.
The Westmont youth is accused of stabbing a 14-year-old boy in the shoulder on Sunday during dispute over money and/or a quarter ounce of marijuana, West Hills Regional police said.
The stabbing occurred near Westmont Hilltop High School at the end of a path through a wooded area that leads to Graystone Lane in Westmont Borough, police said.
Both boys are Westmont Hilltop students, police said.
The 14-year-old was treated in the emergency room at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown for a stab wound and later released.
The victim’s family was consulted before the bond reduction, Cambria County Assistant District Attorney Beth Bolton Penna said.
The boy will be confined to his home after he is released from the Cambria County Prison.
The 15-year-old also must undergo a mental-health examination and have no contact with the victim as part of his bond-release conditions, Bolton Penna said.
