Suspect sought in attempted robbery on Pitt-Johnstown campus

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — According to a university spokesman, an attempted robbery occurred Tuesday on the Pitt-Johnstown campus in a parking lot near the Whalley Memorial Chapel.

The suspect used a knife in the commission of the crime, Robert W. Knipple, associate vice president for Institution and Community Relations, said in a press release.

The perpetrator is described as a male approximately 5’7” in height and weighing approximately 170 pounds.  He was dressed in all black including a black hoodie, wearing orange tennis shoes, and was missing several front teeth.

An Emergency Notification Service alert was issued to the members of the campus community informing them of the incident and patrols on campus were stepped up over the evening.

Students have been encouraged to not travel alone outdoors and escorts will be provided by campus police officers.

 Anyone with information on the crime is urged to to contact Pitt-Johnstown campus police at 269-7005.

Local law enforcement is assisting in the search for the suspect.
