Camping a must for some bikers

JOHNSTOWN — Camping is a favorite way for many to enjoy their stay while attending Thunder in the Valley.

“A lot of motorcyclists prefer camping because they can throw their tents on their bikes and just take off,” said Olivia Wright Bragdon, communication director for the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the sponsor of the event.

Places that offer camping only during Thunder in the Valley – such as Windber Stadium Camping, Lorain Borough Camping and the ABATE Campground at Greenhouse Park – are perfect for motorcyclists who just take a tent with them, she said.

“We get a lot of people who trailer their bikes behind a motor home and are looking for places with utility hookups.”

Places such as Prince Gallitzin State Park or Woodland Park Campground are well-suited for those campers.

Many campsites will be having parties. That’s great for motorcyclists who are staying at those sites, Bragdon said.

Many motorcyclists also enjoy camping because of the serenity that the campgrounds have to offer, she said.
