Neighbor revives dog overcome in house fire
KENNERDELL – A friendly neighbor helped save a dog from a house fire by performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the animal.
The Oil City Derrick reported Monday that the 3-year-old black lab-husky mix was overcome by smoke Saturday during a fire in Kennerdell, Venango County, about 80 miles north of Pittsburgh.
The newspaper said a boy and his mother pulled the pet out of the smoke-filled home, but it was unresponsive until a woman who lived nearby held the dog’s nose and employed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Joe Santucci, another neighbor, told the newspaper that the dog was taken to an animal clinic and was discharged Sunday in good condition.
Professor seeks research subjects
Professor Laura Stark of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., is working on a project to learn about the experiences of the “normal control” research subjects who participated in studies at the National Institutes of Health.
Stark is performing oral interviews with people who were part of the program.
Medical officers at the Johnstown City-County Clinic recruited dozens of Johnstown residents to volunteer at the Clinical Center at NIH in Bethesda, Md., from 1960 to 1964.
The paid volunteers participated as subjects in clinical trials and worked as research assistants at the center.
For more information or to participate in the interviews, call Stark at (860) 685-3205 or email ljstark@wesleyan.edu.
