Bikers to gather in Somerset County to honor first responders

SHANKSVILLE — Bikers from all over the country are gathering for a ride honoring the first responders and others who died in the 2001 terror attacks.

A volunteer group called the America’s 911 Foundation is sponsoring their 10th annual ride that starts in Somerset. The group wants to call attention to first responders and remind people to never forget the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The bikers will begin their ride early Friday and pass the site of the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville before heading to the Pentagon. On Saturday, the group will travel to ground zero in New York City.

The group was formed in October 2001, when it had its first ride. This year, more than 700 bikers and police escorts are scheduled to participate.
