EBENSBURG —
Cambria County Controller Ed Cernic Jr. said the cash-strapped county will be able to meet its $1.2 million payroll Friday by dipping into agency funds.
Cernic also said Tuesday that the amount of unpaid bills has grown to $2 million despite the county’s having paid nearly $500,000 in bills this week.
Near the end of last week, Cernic had reported that the unpaid bills totaled at $1.5 million, some dating to September.
The bills paid this week included $169,000 for Children and Youth Services’ adoption and foster parents programs and $29,943 on a loan taken out a year ago for security upgrades at the prison, Cernic said.
As he continues to juggle cash and bills, Cernic noted that $600,000 had been received from the state this week in reimbursement and that $1.4 million more from the state is expected in about a week.
Year-end obligations include the $5 million final payment on the $10-million tax anticipation loan that had been taken out at the beginning of the year, Cernic said.
The $1 million borrowed from agency funds also will have to be repaid, but that may not come until next year, he indicated.
