A Beaverdale woman accused in a string of burglaries will answer the charges in Cambria County court.
Lacy Marie Altschuh, 21, waived her right to two preliminary hearings on Wednesday.
She appeared before District Judges John Barron of Upper Yoder Township and Rick Varner of Salix.
Altschuh is accused of being involved in a Nov. 14 burglary in which jewelry was taken from a home while the family was attending church, Adams Township police Chief Kirk Moss said. A piece of the stolen jewelry later turned up at a Richland Township jewelry store, he said.
Altschuh is charged with theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit theft in that case.
West Hills Regional Police charged Altschuh in connection with a Sept. 24 burglary in the 300 block of Durant Street in Lower Yoder Township.
Burglars entered the residence when no one was home and made off with $3,000 in cash, a wedding ring and two handguns after prying open a metal strongbox, police Sgt. George Musulin III said.
Altschuh was charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property in that case.
She was returned to the Cambria County Prison, where she is being held on $20,000 percentage bond.
Scam warning
SOMERSET – Borough police are asking residents to beware of scammers after a woman gave out bank information over the telephone.
An 87-year-old woman said she was contacted Nov. 30 by someone with a Jamaican accent who she believed was a Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes representative. The caller told the woman that she had won money but said her bank information was needed to process her winnings, police reported.
The woman grew suspicious and called police but not before giving her bank information.
Police are advising residents to not give bank information over the telephone.
