A Bedford County pharmacist is jumping into what may be a crowded race next year for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
John Kensinger, 48, of New Paris, said that he decided to seek the nomination because he wants to join other Republicans in reducing the federal budget and getting a stagnant economy turned around.
Five other Republicans have announced their candidacies.
Several others, including Tim Burns, a Johnstown native who made an unsuccessful run against Mark Critz for the U.S. House last year, are seen as potential candidates.
The announced candidates are retired Army Col. John Vernon of Tioga County; Marc Scaringi, a Harrisburg-area lawyer and former aide to Sen. Rick Santorum; Tom Smith, a former coal company owner and Armstrong County farmer; Laureen Cummings, a Scranton-area tea party activist; and David Christian, a Bucks County businessman.
They’re seeking to challenge U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, the Scranton Democrat who is completing his first term.
