Scalp Level Trinity United Methodist Church is ringing with laughter and praise thanks to its youngest members.
The children, with the help of their adult leaders, have raised thousands of dollars in pennies to install a wooden-ship playhouse outside the Paint Township church.
When they are not playing and laughing on the ship, they are practicing the bells so that their bell choir can play hymns at worship services.
In the summer, the children cashed in their pennies to purchase the nearly $5,000 playhouse.
The children are still collecting pennies and hope to add a swing set for themselves and benches on which parents can sit.
The playground, open to the public, also is popular with children from throughout the community, said Ann Neri, who led the final push to raise the money.
“The children love it,” she said about the 30-foot-long ship that includes a gangplank, slide and captain’s wheel.
For her efforts, Neri, of Paint Township, is the Person of the Week.
