A Northern Cambria man who police said assaulted a woman and then got into a fight with an officer was sentenced Tuesday to three to 23 months in the Cambria County Prison.
Thomas Findley, 51, of the 2900 block of Crawford Avenue, also was ordered to make restitution of about $10,000.
He was given credit for time served and released on automatic parole by Cambria County Judge Timothy Creany.
The woman in the Nov. 1 dispute earlier had asked that Creany order Findley to have no contact with her. On Tuesday, she asked if she and Findley could have contact with one another, and Creany agreed.
Findley had entered a guilty plea in early February to charges of simple assault and resisting arrest.
The charges initially included aggravated assault on a police officer, but that charge was reduced after the Cambria County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the incident, court officials said.
Police said the assault occurred when Sgt. Isaac Hassen attempted to arrest Findley. Hassen suffered a leg injury and had to be treated at Miners Medical Center as a result of the assault, police said.
The woman involved in the altercation told police that Findley had been drinking all day and assaulted her as part of an ongoing argument. Findley then fled the home and was picked up later by Hastings police, who had to use a stun gun to subdue him.
The restitution includes $338 to the Northern Cambria Police Department and more than $9,500 to UPMC Insurance Services.
