Police: Man threatened women, children in home

JOHNSTOWN — A homeless man found a home in the Cambria County Prison on Friday after police said he threatened to shoot three women and two children with a handgun.

Johnstown police said 25-year-old Davon Marquis Joiner spent Thursday night with his girlfriend at the home in the 300 block of McMillen Street.

When he awoke on Friday, Joiner pulled a handgun and accused someone of stealing his money, police said.

According to the criminal complaint filed by police, a woman at the home called 911 and said, “There is a dude here with a gun. He is coming up the stairs. I am hanging up. Can you all hurry?”

When police arrived, they found a Jennings Model 9 handgun stashed beneath a mattress.

The handgun was loaded with one round in the chamber and several rounds in the magazine, police said.

The woman who called 911 told police that Joiner pointed the gun and threatened to shoot everyone if he didn’t get his money back.

Police charged Joiner with five counts each of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment. He also was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children and one count of convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi of Vinco and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $75,000 bond.
