Diocese to bring back TV shows

JOHNSTOWN — Two local television shows produced by the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese will return to the airwaves because of inquiries by viewers.

The two 30-minute shows, “Answering the Call” and “Faith Alive: A Teen Perspective,” are returning to WWCP-TV Fox Channel 8 and Atlantic Broadband public access Channel 14 after going on hiatus during the holiday season.

“Answering the Call” can be viewed at 7 a.m. Sundays, followed by “Faith Alive: A Teen Perspective” at 7:30 on Fox Channel 8.

The shows also will be aired at 9 and 9:30 p.m. Sundays on Atlantic Broadband public access Channel 14.

Tony DeGol, director of communications for the diocese, produces and co-hosts “Answering the Call” with Father Allen Zeth, director of vocations for the diocese.

On this show, various diocesan priests and religious leaders discuss the paths that led them to their vocations and their various assignments.

They speak about ministries they perform in addition to being pastors and what they do to encourage vocations.

“It’s certainly no secret that Bishop Mark Bartchak has made an effort to reach out to young men and women of the diocese to encourage vocations,” DeGol said.

“Faith Alive: A Teen Perspective” is part of the ongoing mission of Francine Swope, coordinator of youth ministry, religious education and sacramental preparation for the diocese, to engage young people in their faith.

Father John Byrnes, judicial vicar and pastor of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Cresson, serves as host.

Current topics that have been discussed include Catholic dating and the issue of bullying.

“The teens have been very open in expressing their feelings,” Swope said.

Swope said copies of the show will be made available to be used in parishes and schools as learning tools.

Any teen interested in appearing on the show can contact Swope at 693-1401 or email fswope@dioceseaj.org.

A schedule of upcoming episodes can be found at www.dioceseaj.org.
