NEW – Police: Husband kills self, wife, man at Monessen high-rise

Associated Press

MONESSEN — Police say marital troubles apparently led a man to shoot his wife and a wheelchair-bound man outside a high-rise complex for the elderly and disabled in southwestern Pennsylvania, before fatally shooting himself.

Monessen police Chief Mark Gibson says the gunman was 42-year-old Vladimir Von Fischer. Gibson says the man shot his wife, 44-year-old Maedee Von Fischer, and her friend, 44-year-old Nicholas Mascetta (mah-SHEH’-tah) outside Westgate Manor, in Monessen, about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. The shooting happened about 9 p.m. Sunday.

The chief says the Von Fischers lived a short distance from the complex and had been having marital troubles. One person witnessed the shooting in a picnic-type pavilion next to the high-rise, though other people were outside in the general vicinity.

Nobody else was hurt.
