Man charged with shooting woman

— A Johnstown man was jailed Friday after police said he forced a woman to perform oral sex on him and then shot her in the leg with a handgun.

City police charged Jamere Quince Christian, 23, with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

Police said in a criminal complaint that they were called at 2 a.m. to a reported shooting in the 700 block of Cypress Avenue, where Christian lived with a woman.

Police found the woman with a gunshot wound in her lower left leg. She was treated at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.

The woman told police she and Christian had returned home after drinking at Woodside Bar and Grill on Highland Park Road. She said Christian forced her to have oral sex and punched her in the head.

Christian then began yelling for his shoes, she said, and the couple went out to the car to retrieve them.

The woman told police she was shot when she was unable to open the trunk.

Christian fled and was picked up later by police.

He was arraigned by on-call District Judge John Barron of Upper Yoder Township and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $100,000 bond.

Assault on police officer

A Northern Cambria man was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer when the officer tried to arrest him during a domestic dispute.

In a criminal complaint, borough police alleged that Thomas Lee Findley, 51, of the 2900 block of Crawford Avenue, assaulted a woman Thursday night. The woman told police Findley had been drinking all day when an argument started.

When Sgt. Isaac Hassen arrived and tried to arrest Findley, he fought back.

Hassen suffered a leg injury and was treated at Miners Medical Center, police said.

Findley fled and was picked up by Hastings police. Police said they had to use a stun gun to subdue him.

Findley also was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, disorderly conduct and several summary charges.

He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Rick Varner of Salix and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $40,000 bond.

Power in Moxham expected to be restored by 1 p.m. Tuesday
One person was sent to the hospital Tuesday after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole in Johnstown leaving some customers without power, authorities said. The one-vehicle crash happened on Bridge Street in the Moxham section of Johnstown at 1:14 a.m., fire Chief Anthony Kovacic said. When firefighters arrived, they found utility wires down, he said. Denny Platt, area manager for Penelec, said 402 customers initially lost power, including North American Hoganas High Alloys, a business which is located on Bridge Street. Power was restored to all but nine customers by 3:30 a.m., he said. The remaining nine customers are expected to have power restored by 1 p.m., Platt said.
