Hundreds of Christians from different denominations joined together today in remembrance of the events that unite their traditions.
Carrying large, wooden crosses the faithful took to the streets in communities across the region to mark the events leading up to Jesus Christ’s death on the cross.
“Easter really brings us together because it is the core of our faith celebrating the resurrection of Christ,” the Rev. Randy Bain of Oakland United Methodist Church said at the start of East Hills Ministerium’s annual cross walk.
Volunteers took turns transporting the large wooden cross from Beulah United Methodist Church, 716 Bedford St. in Johnstown, up Bedford Street and Scalp Avenue for more than two miles to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1000 Scalp Ave. in Richland Township.
Similar processions were held in Windber and East Conemaugh boroughs and through the Forest Hills School District communities.
