SOMERSET — CSX Transportation has rescheduled two meetings on railroad track enhancements that had been scheduled for February but were canceled because of snowstorms.
The open house meetings are being held to discuss National Gateway railway projects being planned for Allegheny, Bedford and Somerset counties.
One will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 9 at the Quality Inn conference center, 215 Ramada Road in Somerset.
The other will be held at the same time Thursday at the University Club at Pitt, 123 University Place in Pittsburgh.
The initiative involves bridge replacements, tunnel work and track lowerings along CSX’s railroad between Coraopolis and Hyndman to obtain the vertical clearance required to allow more efficient and environmentally beneficial double-stack trains to pass.
Representatives from CSX and consulting engineers will be present to discuss the proposed project, right of way acquisition and environmental considerations as well as address any questions and concern.
The projects are scheduled for construction in 2010 and ’11.
